Who is Kalyach?

Kalyach (Cailleach) ‘The Great Mother’

The mother of all gods and goddesses in Scotland, also known as the 'Winter Goddess'. Shaping the land and islands.

Through the winter she keeps the wild animals safe and the seeds & plants incubated for spring.

Folklore believes she dropped rocks from her apron, landing as standing stones/mountains/islands. She would pierce the land with her stake forming rivers & lochs.

She is a goddess of transformation, letting things go that need to go, making room for the new, for change.
